Cammi Tse – yes, that Cammi Tse, the Hong Kong model and former flame of actor-singer Edison Chen – is making headlines again, but not for the best reasons this time.

The influencer is reportedly under investigation after allegedly promoting an illegal online platform via her Instagram account, and it could land her in some serious hot water. We’re talking up to 7 years in jail and a potential HK$5 million fine under Hong Kong’s digital laws.

So, what happened?

According to reports circulating in Hong Kong media, Cammi recently posted an Instagram Story showing a roulette game – not unusual at first glance. But alongside the flashy game visuals, she also included a clickable link that directed her followers to an online “store” which has now been flagged as a gambling platform operating outside legal boundaries.

Now here’s the catch: promoting illegal online casinos – even indirectly – can be considered a criminal offence under Hong Kong’s Digital Ordinance Law. Promoting or even facilitating betting activity, especially when it’s linked to unlicensed or underground platforms, is a big legal no-no. Lawyer Albert Luk told HK01 that such an act is seen as encouraging gambling behaviour, which brings it under criminal scrutiny.

For those found guilty, the stakes are high: a maximum sentence of seven years behind bars plus a whopping fine of HK$5 million.

Netizens have been quick to chime in, with many questioning how Cammi has maintained such a luxurious lifestyle over the years despite not having any visible long-term job or business. Now that she’s working as a full-time influencer, promoting various products and services online, this recent slip-up could prove costly – legally and reputation-wise.

It’s also come to light that Cammi may not be the only one in the crosshairs. Hong Kong media suggests that some e-casino operators have been recruiting influencers as unofficial brand ambassadors, often luring them in with massive payouts. We’re talking offers that pay up to six times the usual influencer rate – just to post a link or two.

But for Cammi, this particular promo gig might’ve crossed a legal line. Her post may have looked harmless to followers, but to authorities, it’s a direct violation of laws designed to curb illegal gambling promotions online.

With public opinion split and legal experts weighing in, all eyes are now on Cammi Tse. Will she be charged? Can she avoid jail time? One thing’s for sure – this is one influencer collab that didn’t go down well.
